Skating on Thin Ice

The ice is thinning and the ice fishers have all abandoned the harbor, but the geese don't seem to mind stepping out on the giant rink.

It was fun to watch them trying to walk. Well, maybe it was more like an ungainly skating routine than walking.

I'm not kidding. Pace, pace - slip, slip, slide. Pace, pace - slip and slide. They were being very careful and they never actually fell, but it was a near thing from time to time.

Baloo and I were both fascinated.

Farther out on the ice, we spotted a bald eagle. It must have been watching the big, flat expanse for any movement - or maybe trying to see if the ice fishers left any of their catch behind when they headed for shore.
