There hasn't been a post for my fungus fancying friends lately, so I thought it was about time to address the situation.
Of course, I have absolutely none of my reference books, so I haven't looked any of them up, although I did think the ones above looked like inverted hooped skirts. Perhaps mushrooms a la Marilyn Monroe's billowing dress. :)
These impressive specimens had forced their way through the leaves and pine needles, looking like freshly made canopies to shelter wee folk. I'm pretty sure Piper and I disturbed the end of the night's dancing and reveling.
They definitely looked enchanted. And enchanting.
This brilliant scarlet beauty fairly glowed against the backdrop of browns and greens. It was the only one of its kind, which seemed fitting for one so striking.

Ah, our fungal friends ! Love em. Sorry about the loss of your field guides for identification, I can't imagine. I use mine at least once a week, if not more. I hope you accumulate another collection of them. Thanks for sharing the pics. Oh, I think that the brightly colored ones are Scarlet Waxy Caps. I've looked for the others and can't figure them out. Maybe someone else can. :^)

I didn't recognize the other two, either. I saw another little batch of the hoop skirts a couple days ago and I was surprised because it's a new one to me. It has an unusual enough growth pattern that I would have remembered seeing it before this year, if I had. I think you're right about the scarlet waxy caps. I couldn't make a definite identification from the pictures I saw online, but your input pretty much clinches it. The fairy canopies? I haven't a clue about them, either. Hugs to you, too! :)
